2) Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail – Plant City

Does your idea of fall fun include heart-pounding thrills and eerie encounters? Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail opens for the season in late September. Located outside of Tampa, the outdoor scare park transforms autumn nights into immersive horror stories. Perfect for brave souls and thrill-seeking teens.

What to expect:

  • Three haunted trails with unique storylines with live actors, chilling effects, and atmospheric dread.

  • A haunted hayride that surrounds you with scares from every angle—above, beside, and behind.

  • Escape games for puzzle lovers who want to test their wits under pressure.

  • Axe throwing and midway games for a break between screams.

  • Food trucks serve comfort bites like grilled cheese, corn dogs, butterbeer, and the fan-favorite apple cider float.

  • Gift shop with themed merchandise, spooky souvenirs, and Sir Henry’s horror book series.

Did You Know? Did you know that haunted attractions trace back to 19th-century London?  Marie Tussaud’s Chamber of Horrors showcased wax figures of guillotined revolutionaries and infamous criminals. The displays weren’t just entertainment—they reflected a Victorian fascination with death and justice.

3) Fall Activities In Tampa – Festival Hopping

Tampa’s fall festivals offer a little something for everyone, from pumpkin patches to pour-over coffee. Whether you’re chasing kids in bounce houses or browsing local art, these events make autumn in the city feel extra vibrant.

  • Hyde Park Village Fall Festival – This annual event with free admission transforms the village into a hub of food trucks, artisan vendors, face painting, and cozy fall family photo ops.

  • Fall Fest At Water Works Park – The riverside celebration is perfect for the entire family, featuring crafts, a corn maze, and a bounce house that keeps kids entertained while adults enjoy the scenic views. It’s a great way to soak up fall fun without leaving the city.

  • Tampa Bay Coffee & Art Festival – For a more laid-back vibe, this festival blends local roasters with emerging artists. It’s an ideal choice for creatives, caffeine lovers, and anyone craving a quieter kind of fall festivity.

Fun Fact: The word fall wasn’t always part of the seasonal vocabulary. It originated from the phrase fall of the leaf in 16th-century England, gradually replacing the term harvest.

4) Tampa Fall Activities For Families – Haunted Pirate Shipwreck

Head to Tampa’s Sparkman Wharf, where haunted shipwrecks and ghostly tales come to life along the waterfront. This family destination transforms into a haunted wharf each autumn, offering thrills for all ages.

Whether you want to explore the spooky décor or indulge in seasonal foods, Sparkman Wharf is a fun way to dive into fun Tampa fall activities with a touch of spooky flair.

  • Floating Pumpkin Patch – A whimsical twist on fall tradition, perfect for photo ops and pint-sized pirates.

  • Silly Spooks & Ghostly Giggles – Light-hearted frights designed for younger visitors—think friendly ghosts and playful decorations.

  • Pirate Shipwreck Walkthrough – Explore the haunted remains of a legendary vessel, complete with eerie sound effects and hidden treasures.

  • Fall-Themed Food & Treats – Seasonal bites from vendors with flavors that celebrate autumn.

  • Interactive Treasure Hunts – Family-friendly scavenger games that lead kids through the haunted wharf in search of clues and candy.

  • Live Entertainment & Waterfront Views – Enjoy live music, storytelling, and spooky surprises along downtown Tampa.

Fun Fact: The first fan costume contest was in 1940 at a science fiction convention in New York. What started as a playful gathering of imaginative fans has evolved into the elaborate masquerades we know today.

5) Pumpkin Patches And Corn Mazes – Fall Fun For All Ages

Tampa Bay knows how to celebrate fall with flair, and nothing says autumn like a classic pumpkin patch or a winding corn maze. These seasonal staples offer a fun way to spend the day outdoors, with activities suited for all ages.

Whether you’re picking the perfect pumpkin or snapping festive photos, these local favorites deliver cozy charm and family-friendly excitement:

  • Fox Squirrel Corn Maze – A Tampa Bay must-visit near Plant City, this place blends rustic charm with sprawling trails, old-fashioned games, and hayrides. It’s a must-visit for families and corn maze enthusiasts alike.

  • HarvestMoon Fun Farm – Located in Masaryktown, enjoy a giant maze, jumping pillow, cow train, and tasty treats. It’s ideal for families with kids of all ages looking for interactive outdoor play.

  • Dave’s Pumpkin Patch – A charming spot known for its wide selection of pumpkins, fall-themed photo backdrops, and friendly staff. It’s perfect for a quick visit or a relaxed afternoon of browsing and decorating.

Did You Know? The first major corn maze opened to the public in 1993. Don Frantz and Adrian Fisher created it in Annville, Pennsylvania, drawing inspiration from ancient labyrinths and amusement park puzzles as a way to attract visitors to a local farm.

6) Oktoberfest – Tampa Bay Style

Each October, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park transforms into a lively Bavarian village for Oktoberfest Tampa, one of the most anticipated annual fall events in the region. With views of the Hillsborough River and a crowd ready to toast, this three-day festival blends traditional German flair with Tampa Bay style.

Families are welcome and there is a kids’ zone. However, the real adult fun kicks off after sunset. As the evening progresses, the competitions get rowdier, the music louder, and the beer steins heavier.

Event Highlights:

  • Stein Hoisting – Hold a full liter of beer at a 90-degree angle. Once you bend your arm or drop and spill your beer, you are out.

  • Mr. & Mrs. Oktoberfest – Break out your best dirndl and lederhosen to win the contest.

  • Carry The Wench – Pick up your wife or partner and run through the course. Do not drop your partner. Not only will it hurt, but it will cost you time.

  • Keg Stacking – Balance and strategy are necessary as the stacks get higher.

  • Tug-o-War – Teams battle it out in a test of strength and pride.

  • The Chicken Dance – A crowd favorite that gets everyone to their feet. Get ready to flap, clap, and shake your tail feathers.

Fun Fact: Oktoberfest began in 1810 to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria. The original party featured horse races and free beer for the townspeople. It was so fun that it became an annual tradition.

7) Celebrating October In Style – Halloween Events

The Tampa Bay area goes all out when it comes to celebrating Halloween. From spine-tingling theme park thrills to family-friendly zoo adventures and classic trick-or-treating, there’s something for every age and scare level.

Whether you’re chasing haunted houses or strolling through costumed crowds, these events embrace the Halloween spirit:

  • Busch Gardens Tampa Bay Howl-O-Scream – This annual fright fest features haunted houses, scare zones, and pulse-pounding thrill rides. As the evening progresses, the park transforms into a scream-filled playground for horror fans.

  • ZooTampa At Lowry Park – Perfect for younger children and families, ZooTampa offers daytime Halloween fun with themed animal encounters, trick-or-treat trails, and festive décor.

  • Trick-or-Treating At Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park – This downtown Tampa favorite offers a safe space for families to enjoy classic Halloween fun. Costumes, candy, and community vibes make it a seasonal staple.

Fun Fact: Trick-or-treating began as a way to earn food. In medieval Europe, people went door to door offering prayers for the dead in exchange for soul cakes—a tradition known as souling.
